EXPERIENCE - KNOWLEDGE - COMMITMENT
Dr. Edward Saafi, BSc, MSc(Hons), PhD, MBA is a Biomedical health research Scientist who has worked in the area of Type 2 diabetes mellitus, both within academia and the biopharmaceutical industry. He is also a private business owner and passionate supporter of the local community both at national and local levels.
Dr. Edward Saafi brings national level governance and leadership experience from serving as a member of the New Zealand Health and Disability Ethics Committee, and the Health Research Council of New Zealand Science Assessment Committee for Public Health Research amongst other related governance involvements.
He also brings local community experience and an excellent understanding of the multi-cultural and diverse health needs of the larger Auckland community through first hand experience from serving on various community advocacy and DHB health advisory committees and also supporting local children into healthy lifestyle choices and sport by working with young people - including coaching Under 6 rugby at the local rugby club. Dr. Edward Saafi is proud of his Varsity Red Under 6 rugby team who this year won 11 out of 14 games scheduled.
Dr. Edward Saafi is also well qualified to serve the people of Auckland on the ADHB Board. His qualifications include an:
- Executive MBA (Business Administration) from Massey University
- PhD in Biological Sciences (Biomedical/Diabetes) from The University of Auckland
- MSc (Hons) (Biochemistry/Molecular Biology) from Massey University and
- BSc (Biochemistry/Physiology) from Victoria University of Wellington.

- Less bureaucracy and more front-line care for patients
