Personal Profile

Derek Austin, retired farmer and now sell rural real estate. I live in the Corriedale Ward in the Waitaki District. Married to Karen with 3 Adult children. I have real experience in Local Government including Waitaki Electric Power Board and Waitaki Power Trust and a District Councillor.

1.       As a former councillor (01/04) I have unfinished business to attend to.

2.       For me the formula  this term is about keeping issues simple. It is time to get” back to basics”! I will listen to what ratepayers say in relation to essentials. I am aware these are tough times and it is important to prioritise council services. I will strive to ensure fair and equitable rating between rural and urban ratepayers.

3.       As an experienced councillor I will defend and abide by the democratic process but I intend to be my own man insofar as representing Corriedale will allow. The area is in need of basic remedial services including clearing of culverts, ditches and water run-offs. Regular rural roading maintenance is also a priority.
