I seek re-election having served a three year term on the Tawa community board.

Being a Tawa hardware retailer I have been able to be on the spot, to see and hear what is going on in the area. I have enjoyed being able to have this regular contact with the Tawa community.

I have been the Tawa community board member on the board of Camp Elsdon, the local family camp.

I attend local community meetings to keep up to date on local issues and people.

I am a member of the Tawa Community patrols, who work as the eyes and ears of the Police in the Tawa area.

I have lived in Linden for the past 8 years, and have been a hardware retailer in Tawa for the past 25 years.

I am married with 3 adult daughters, and 4 grandchildren.

I am a keen advocate of the concept of Tawa having a community board, and look forward to the chance to serve another term.

Top 5 Issues

  1. THE COUNCIL TEN YEAR PLAN
The ten year plan is important for the ongoing and long term development of the local community. Not all desired projects can occur in the short term; the ten year plan is an effective way of making sure all issues remain in focus even when they are not able to be achieved immediately.
  2. LIQUOR LICENSING
The central Government has expressed a desire for the communities to have their say so I will be encouraging my fellow Tawa residents to have an opinion and have it heard.
I believe that when people have input into regulations that affect their communities there is better support and understanding.
Local input into liquor licensing also has the advantage that those involved in sales keep an eye on each other to ensure they have a level playing field. I believe a wide proliferation of liquor outlets is no one's interest but if licenses are easy to lose some of the problems may be minimised.
  3. VANDALISM AND TAGGING
We need to continue our efforts to eliminate or reduce tagging, graffiti and vandalism in our community.
The efforts of the community patrols are an important part of keeping a watch on the community, and I will continue this group's effort.
