OUT WITH THE OLD GUARD,

IN WITH THE NEW

We are heading into the new Auckland Council. It will all be different, so lets not keep with the old guard.

I consider that we need New Blood, as it is a New Council.

I will listen to the community, Act on what the community wishes, and do my upmost for the community at large.

Some of my interests to improve the Coast include:

An improved Public Transport System

A Safe Environment with power poles in residential areas to be placed underground for public safety.

Law and Order

And most important, what you tell me is important to you or your ideas.

So I would like to think that you would see fit to choose me as one of your Local Board representatives.

Top 5 Issues

  1. TRANSPORT

I use the buses on a regular basis and as such I have first hand knowledge on what we have. We have here on the Coast a second rate service at times, badly thought out, and poorly serviced. The majority of drivers are possibly the most friendly of all. So I intend to do my utmost to improve this including a Park and Ride.

As for Penlink I am not in favour of this as the costs involved to do now doesn't warrant such expenditure when the money can be used in other areas. Also if monies are to be spent on major projects then they should be for all the community not just a few
  2. YOUTH

We need to find out what youth require and try and get them involved so that they don't hang around shopping areas and create a nuisance.
  3. LAW AND ORDER

We need to encourage a more higher profile of the Police in the area and get back to Community Policing rather than be part of the money making position. At this point I am not aware of the % of crime solved in the district but whatever it is I want to see it increased, or crime reduced.
  4. SAFETY

This is to encourage our lines company to put ALL power lines in residential ares underground. Why is it that areas can have the power underground yet in others they dont.

This costs money, not only to when power lines are broken but also when vehicles hit them and are damaged. This then involves possibly loss of life also or hospitalisation of the occupants.

What about the workers who have to go out in all weather to repair such faults.
  5. COMMUNITY

Listen to what concerns you and act where possible to fix.

Personal Profile

Who am I?

Having arrived in New Zealand in 1962 and apart from a couple of visits back to UK I have always considered my home to be New Zealand having been granted citizenship about 30+ years ago. I moved to the Coast about 6 years ago, although I did look at opening a business on the peninsular in 1992.

Most of my working career was in General Insurance and concentrated in the Auckland Region from Papatoetoe, to as far North as Whangarei, so it is not surprising that I have an interest in the Auckland Region.

Besides Insurance I was also employed in later life by the Head Office of a Freezing Works Company to reconcile their Payroll accounts. I have also owned retail shops and had a time driving a taxi on the North Shore.

In ALL these positions I always worked in a team environment and in the majority of these ended up in a supervisory role or higher.

I consider that I would be able to take on this role with objectiveness and of course being able to deliver, what one hopes is the correct decision. This means that at times some may not agree with the decision you make.

At the moment I spend time doing genealogy and am involved on the committee of the local genealogy branch. I am also involved with the local High School in managing their NZQA examinations.

I instigated, and succeeded in having changes to the local bus service in the Army Bay area, which meant many discussions with the company and the Regional Council over a period of 18months. In the past have been members of Jaycees, Kiwanis, Lyons and several clubs in which I normally ended up being elected to the committee.

If I may use the words from Star Trek, “Going Where No One Has Gone Before” I believe we are in for a new beginning and I would like to be part of it, and if you vote for me I hope one day we may meet.

Dogs on the Hibiscus Coast

Hello Pat

I will be honest with you in saying that I have not read the policy but I have over the years been a dog owner and agree that there should be times when dogs are allowed to run free provided they are under the control of their owners. I am in favour of all \"poo\" being the responsibilty of the owner to pick up and dispose of and would look at the issue of \"pooper scoopers\" to dog owners and that if they do not use then a fine will be a auto matic issue.

Licensing conditions - what would your approach be?

I think we have enough legislation in place for responsible hosts who serve alcohol and the problem lies with education to the drinkers.

I do think that we should come down heavy on fines to anyone who breaks the law as far as serving alchohol to minors and also when anyone is intoxicated. I also agree that we should monitor the number of outlets selling liqour in an area.
