I have served Napier on the Regional Council for the past 9 years. Currently I am Deputy Chairman of Council and Chair the Hearings Committee.  I represent our Napier Constituency on the Napier Rotary Pathways Trust and have been actively involved in development of pathways on Regional Council land. I have financial, marketing and business experience through past work in educational publishing, as a Trustee of Anglican Social Services and as a financial advisor to Diocese of Waiapu and am a Director of a Central North Island Aged Care Company. I have lived in Napier for 34 years, have worked throughout the region and am active in community work, music and sport. I am married to Roger Scott who is an anaesthetist and we have three adult sons, and six grandchildren.

Top 5 Issues

  1. Water
Hawke’s Bay is fortunate to have a relative abundance of water but it is essential that the ecological flows in surface water are protected and that the aquifers are kept in a sustainable balance. Water for irrigation, for industrial and for urban consumption must be used to the maximum efficiency.
My priority is an integrated approach which manages both water supply and water demand to create good outcomes for the environment and for the economy.
  2. Biodiversity
I have worked for years to extend possum eradication to urban areas. The possum and rodent control on Napier Hill has had brilliant results for our bird life. I will work to increase biodiversity in our city through waterway enhancement and possum and rat control.
  3. Regional Pathways
I have been actively involved in increasing access to our river reserves I will continue to promote a network of regional pathways. I am committed to enhancing our environment, enabling public enjoyment of our “wild” spaces, and extending Napier’s network of pathways to their full potential.
  4. Port of Napier
The Port of Napier is crucial to our economic security and growth. The dividend reduces the general rate helping every ratepayer.
I will protect ratepayers’ investment in the Port and encourage good corporate citizenship of the Port for the benefit of Napier.
  5. Community Facilities
I have supported funding of community facilities that benefit the region. Through this funding in my term on council, I have promoted the building of Pettigrew Green Arena; the hockey turf at Park Island, redevelopment of McLean Park , provision for Regional Archive and the redevelopment of the Hawke’s Bay Museum. I will continue to see that Napier facilities that benefit the region are adequately funded.
