Christine O’Brien is Deputy Chair of the Tamaki Community Board and represents the Board on the Otahuhu Mainstreet and Commercial Association’s Finance Committee.
She has been the spokesperson for Community Board funded projects such as the refurbishment of local parks and clubs, planting of fruit trees in public spaces, anti-graffiti murals and local events and activities, especially in the Otahuhu and Riverside areas. Along with other Community Board members, she lobbied for the extension of 24/7 liquor bans in all Otahuhu parks and reserves, which will take effect shortly.
A 13-year resident of Otahuhu, Christine has been a resident member of the Otahuhu Steering Group since inception and is on the editorial committee of local community newsletter Otahuhu Voices.
Qualified in Law, English Literature and Training Development, she is completing The University of Auckland’s 2010 Women in Leadership Programme.
Currently the Sales and Marketing Manager of Auckland University Press, she also has a history of volunteer work for social services, such as Youthline and the Women’s Refuge, as well as for literary festivals and events.
