Dunedin City Council - Central Ward
I am a fifth generation Dunedinite, and have held numerous positions in commerce, law and social justice including being past President NZ/Queensland, NZ/PNG, China/PNG and Queensland/PNG Business Councils and President Te Aroha Chamber of Commerce. My POLICY is to create a modern blueprint for the future economic and social direction of the city and incentives to attract new business, jobs and industry to the city. My priority is to tackle record debt and costs but at the same time balance that with social responsibilities to support the young the elderly and the vulnerable in our community. My PLEDGE is to make decisions in a transparent and fiscally responsible manner and to consult with the community on matters that might affect their way of life or livelihood.
Southern District Health Board - Otago Constituency
Past positions I have held have included Co-Chairman NZ private sector aid to Bougainville, International Aid Consultant and in PNG National Chairman Mental Health Foundation, National Councillor Red Cross Society, Secretary of the Cancer Relief Society and Board member Cheshire Homes Foundation for the Disabled. I have also held numerous positions in commerce and law including being past President NZ/Queensland and NZ/PNG Business Councils. My POLICY is to ensure access to affordable and timely health care, equitable funding for the South, reducing hospital waiting lists, Board transparency and accountability and to restore home help, when required, for the elderly and the disadvantaged. My PLEDGE is to be an independent voice for the elderly, the vulnerable and those less well represented.

Top 5 Issues
- DCC: Record debt, rising rates, rising costs and a depressed local economy must be tackled and I will bring fresh ideas and a modern innovative approach to find solutions to these issues. I offer a new hope and vision for the city's future.
SDHB: I am concerned by the erosion of critical services such as home help for our elderly and the possibility of losing our neurosurgery unit. As a Health Board member I will continue the fight to retain, and improve, essential and life saving services. - DCC: Council must return its focus to address the core issues of maintaining quality water supply, waste disposal, roads, lighting, footpaths, inner city parking, effective public transport and cycle ways.
SDHB: Our Board must ensure that our health services continue to remain affordable and accessible to everyone in our community and to develop strategies to reduce long hospital waiting lists. - DCC: To ease the rates' burden I will push for an independent audit of the city's finances, projects and corporate structure to remove inefficiences, reduce waste and improve core service management. I will urge Council to review tender and contract processes and procedures to ensure they are open, transparent, competitive and that there is accountability.
SDHB: Our Board must find new and innovative ways to develop incentives to attract doctors and health professional to rural areas and to attract and retain specialists for the Southern community. - DCC: Council must act now to find solutions to our depressed local economy. I will advocate for the city to establish a special economic zone to attract new business, industry and jobs and for it to expand its sister city relationships with economic power houses of Asia and Europe. Council's own economic and planning policies need to be reviewed, reshaped and adapted to reflect the changing economic landscape.
SDHB: Our Board must review tender and contract procedures and processes to ensure transparency, accountability and competitiveness so as to address fraud or mismanagement. - DCC: Council must act, and be seen to be acting, in a transparent, accountable and fiscally responsible manner. It must respect and support the hopes, aspirations and vision of each of our diverse and unique communities and must listen to the community's concerns
SDHB: Government funding for SDHB is inequitable and insufficient. I will advocate for equitable funding based on the special needs of our increasing elderly population.
Personal Profile
I am passionate about Dunedin and have a strong desire to serve the Dunedin community, just as 4 previous generations of my family have done. You could say that it's in my DNA.
As an independent candidate I believe I can best serve the Dunedin community interests , without being constrained by any political or other affiliations.
Throughout my working life I have had a long record of community service, involvement in numerous charities such as Red Cross Society, Mental Health Foundation and many other organisations.
Conflicts of Interest
To the best of my knowledge and belief, I have no conflicts of interest with the Southern District Health Board (DHB), and I do not believe that any such conflicts of interest are likely to arise in future.
