Your Community Voice for Albert-Eden-Roskill Ward

You can vote for 2 Councillors for the Auckland Council in the new ward of Albert-Eden-Roskill.
Cr Cathy Casey and Cr Glenda Fryer are standing to give the community a voice. They have a strong track record as a team that delivers. As Councillors on the Auckland City Council they have:
- Secured funding to protect our volcanic cones - Owairaka, Maungawhau and Puketapapa
- Campaigned against John Banks' and C&R's wasteful plan to spend up to $30 million of ratepayers' money demolishing Monte Cecilia School
- Demanded that our community has a say over where and when liquor stores can open.
- Advocated for compensation and more parks for the communities most affected by SH20 - Waterview and Owairaka
- Voted against John Banks and C&R increasing fixed charges that hike rates for ordinary people
- Called for Council to fund the basics like footpaths, libraries and pools, not Rugby World Cup 2011 parties
Are you concerned that you and your family will be ignored under the Supercity?
Our communities in the Albert-Eden-Roskill ward deserve a strong voice on the new Auckland Council. We need hardworking local people who will deliver for our community, and make the Supercity work for all of us.
We need a Supercity that delivers for the many, not the few. Glenda & Cathy will:
- Give our communities a real voice and stop the downtown takeover
- Stop Rodney Hide, John Banks and C&R from selling off our assets - let's keep them publicly owned
- Invest in the public transport our community needs
- Deliver a fair rating system and stop ordinary people being squeezed by John Banks' and C&R's unfair fixed charges

Top 5 Issues
- Get a decent public transport stystem working in Auckland that is cheap, comfortable, runs to time and takes people where they want to go.
- Our valued public assets like the Ports of Auckland, our airport shares, our water company and our stock of council housing must stay in public ownership
- Local Boards must be given the authority and enough funding to make sure that good local decision-making can take place. As your councillor I will attend Local Board meetings
- We need to provide more care and protection of our precious volcanoes and streams and support all measures to clean up the sewage in our harbours
- Good local services must be delivered, like decent footpaths and clean and safe local shopping centres. Our libraries, community centres, halls and recreation centres play an important role in the local community in encouraging young and old to positively participate in community life and must be supported
Personal Profile
Cr Cathy Casey
ph 845 1952 (h) cmcasey@xtra.co.nz
I am standing as a Councillor candidate with Cr Glenda Fryer in the Albert-Eden-Roskill Ward for the Auckland Council elections.
Track Record
As an Auckland City Councillor, I have worked extremely hard for Eden Albert Ward on local issues such as ensuring communities like Waterview and Owairaka receive fair compensation for the disruption caused by the new motorway and ensuring the protection of local assets including our wonderful volcanoes of Owairaka-Mt Albert, Maungawhau-Mt Eden and Puketepapa-Mt Roskill.
I was instrumental in recently securing $300,000 for extra maintenance work on Owairaka-Mt Albert and I'm now turning my sights on a management plan for Puketepapa-Mt Roskill and Three Kings Reserve.
I am also currently campaigning for safer and cleaner town centres across the ward including an urgent upgrade of the unsafe and unsightly Mt Albert railway station.
I have been an effective member of the Auckland City Council tackling controversial issues such as trying to stop Steve Crow's Boobs on Bikes Parade; fighting against the eviction of the Monte Cecilia School in Mt Roskill; working to keep the Women's Suffrage Memorial in Khartoum Place and making sure any ratepayers' money used to fund the Rugby World Cup is spent wisely.
I believe that building communities and providing quality community facilities - libraries, community centres, halls and recreation centres - are key parts of council's role.

Why vote for Cathy
"I want to ensure we create a democratic, inclusive and welcoming new Supercity where local people are able to influence decision making.
We need to encourage our young people to participate in positive ways which is why community facilities like the new Youth Centre at Wesley in Mt Roskill are so important. We must also harness the experience and energy of older people in the community who have so much to contribute. The new Supercity has a vital part to play in ensuring people from all communities are fully involved in decision making in the future so that they get a fair share of this region's resources."
