Brian Casey – Shore Voice

Brian, a Browns Bay resident for 11 years, made New Zealand his home after 35 years in South Africa.

With extensive business experience in both the private and corporate sector he is an experienced negotiator getting things done on a win-win basis.

Brian understands and is in tune with different cultures, and is determined to get long-term value for residents and ratepayers' hard-earned money.

His priorities are to support local education, simplify the building consent process, and improve the quality of service from council. A big issue for Brian is the unfair pressure on retired and elderly residents to sell their family homes due to never-ending increases in rates and taxes. He also wants to see common sense and balance applied to environmental issues.

"We need to focus on value for money, and support established priorities, not pet projects."

Top 5 Issues

  1. Transport
Transparent planning and cost management of the Albany Park and Ride facility. No point in a park and ride facility when there is insufficient parking. We need to ensure the efficient use of what is very expensive real estate.
Support for an additional, strategic and cost efficient crossing from the North Shore to Auckland City and to the airport. We have seen the devastation wreaked by recent earthquakes in Christchurch.
Whenuapai – we need to keep our options open for this existing valuable facility for the future. Such valuable infrastructure will be prohibitively expensive to replicate in the future.
Smart measures to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic on our motorways.
  2. Value for money for ratepayers. Commonsense and balance required.
  3. Support for the continued revitalization of Browns Bay, Torbay and Mairangi Bay villages, our beachfronts and business communities.
Health of our waterways and local bird life.
  4. Education – support and recognition of the value of our local educational institutions, and ensuring that their aspirations are supported by councils.
  5. Building consent process – a friendlier and more constructive approach to be fostered for users.
