Proud of the west, the diverse cultures, hard-working people and beautiful natural environment. I believe council is always about people.

I am presently your Waitakere City Councillor in the Henderson Ward. Six years as elected Waitakere city councillor and nine years member Henderson Community Board.

I will make positive and fair decisions that provide the best value from rates.

Justice of Peace. Sunnyvale Ratepayers & Residents, trustee Keep Waitakere Beautiful and many more.

Lived here 49 years. Married, two adult children.  Two business diplomas; 25 years management and administration.

Committed to your right to open and honest dealings with council. Good knowledge of social, cultural and financial issues. Committed to our community.

The Auckland Council must balance costs roads, footpaths and rubbish with providing parks, libraries and safe and attractive places to live, work and play. I support attracting new business to provide you and your children with opportunities for employment.

I will be a strong and honest Auckland Council representative for you.

Top 5 Issues

  1. The People -Auckland Council must not start with a budget for infrastructure, but with a vision shared by the people of our city. -You need to be part of creating the vision & ensuring that the foundations of Auckland Council are laid on a series of Priorities & Strategies that the people of Auckland have been involved in designing.
  2. Economic development & employment - Council decisions must be about the people. -Economic development for our region must achieve better opportunities for employment for you & your children. -In all decisions the council must consider the wider social, cultural, economic and environmental isses before quality long-term development can be achieved.
  3. Rates - Waitakere set the council controlled increase at 3.9% this year. Future decisions by the council around leaky buildings liabilities, the costs of amalgamation & new major road & rail projects, will fall on the ratepayers pockets. These decisions will have to be managed in partnership with central government, so that the burden can be spread over a longer timeframe.
  4. Improvements to roads & public transport -Rail electrification. -It is expensive, but essential to develop a good public transport system for the central urban area with more buses and trains. -The regional road connections need to be completed and improvements to our road network are also essential.
  5. Housing affordability & unhealthy homes -New housing must be about creating neighbourhoods & communituies with amenities & local employment opportunities. -The Auckland Spatial Plan must not support dominatory suburbs and cutting up communities with motorways. -A warm, dry & affordable home is a healthy home for you & your children.

Experienced Waitakere city councillor             2007-2010   2001-2004

And Community Board member               2007-2010   2001-2004   1995-1998

Experienced member of all council committees.  Past Deputy Chairperson Finance and Operational Performance Committee, past Chairperson Hillary Commission Grants Committee. Child and Youth Advocate. Safe Waitakere Board member, Neighbourhood Support, City Safety Action Group, HealthLink, trustee Falls Hotel Preservation Trust & Henderson Heritage Trust, Te Atatu and Henderson business association member and other community organisations.

As an elected representative of the people of our city, I will balance my passion for the west and our diverse and wonderful people, with my ability to see a long-term vision for our region. I am an experienced city councillor with the knowledge and ability to bring together the diverse needs of the west and manage the pressures of the new Auckland Council.

I will advocate strongly for the resources to be allocated fairly and equitably for the needs of the west.  I will make positive and fair decisions that provide the best value from rates as a member of the new Henderson-Massey Local Board.

My views have always been coloured by the things I have experienced, those I have learned and a heart and soul that values my Christian faith, our family and the future. Just a few examples of the successful, community consultation and solution-building partnerships that I have been involved in:

  • Older adults housing – Initiated the work programme for the renovations and improvements to our Older Adults Housing. Made a stand for our older adults on issues of poor maintenance and cold, damp housing units. I was pleased that the older tenants recently formed the Voice for Fair Rents Committee as this gave them a united group to prevail on council to agree not to increase the existing tenants rents.

  • Hart Domain, Henderson – Development of playground in 90’s for able bodied and disabled children and lovely Taniwha and Bullocks artworks.

  • Building of the Oratia Stream Walkbridge linking Sunnyvale & McLaren Park areas. A place where people crossed the stream by traversing the pipes that crossed from bank to bank. The original walkbridge has only recently been replaced as part of the Sunnyvale Railway Station upgrade and double-tracking of the rail line and is now linked to the wonderful PTS (Project Twin Streams) walkway and cycleway network.

  • Some of the other community initiatives I support that are important to our community are the Ranui Action Project (RAP), Massey Matters, McLaren Park Henderson South Community Initiative (MPHS) and the Kelston/Span Farm/Glendene Community Project.
