It’s time our Council has a young woman with energy and vision to represent the people of the Taupö District. My family has a long association with this area and I am passionate about our community's future for our families.  I feel so lucky that I am able to bring up my children in Taupö.

My background is varied and diverse. I've worked at the coalface in hospitality, in marketing, five years as a Parliamentary staffer, followed by a communications role at Taupö District Council. Currently my work as an Electorate Agent to Louise Upston MP puts me in an ideal position to know what's on people's minds and gives me insight to their goals and dreams.

These positions have equipped me with a sound knowledge of process of local and central government and the differences between operations and governance.

Put our community first and vote Kirk for Council

Top 5 Issues

  1. Being there for the Community

There is not a mum of a young family on Council at the present time, which represents a huge demographic on the community. I want to be their voice.

There seems to be a lot of concern that councillors are too busy and are not as available to the community as they should be. I want to be available to you.

As someone who loves the Taupö Community, I will be just a phone call away to help people and their families with their issues and opinions. What you want and what you need will enable me to be your voice on Council
    .
  2. Providing workable and affordable community facilities for families

Taupo has so much to offer by way of facilities for our community and its visitors.

I want to go a step further and be a voice for the community for the more detailed aspects of the facilities such as better toilet facilities at Owen Delany Park. With many girls’ now playing rugby and cricket it is important that they are catered for.

I also want young children to adults to the more senior residents of Taupö to be able to enjoy the facilities without being overcharged for these facilities.

Next year Taupo plays host to three international Rugby teams, who will be accompanied by family, friends and supporters; we need to get it right while we are on the world stage.
  3. Protecting our Great Lake

I have a very strong interest and am very keen to protect what’s special about our local area especially our Great Lake.

I am committed to ensuring the water quality of Lake Taupo is preserved as well as the amazing rivers and beaches that surround it.

With a young family who will grow into adults here in Taupo I have a vested interest in ensuring this great asset is respected and passed onto the next generation as it is for us today.
  4. Helping to keep rates affordable

With the possibility of Council amalgamations and major infrastructure projects, Rates will come under a lot of pressure in the next few years.

With a young family I understand the need to keep rates affordable I am committed to standing up for young people, families and businesses already under pressure as well as those retired residents stretched on fixed incomes.
  5. Keeping a hand in the long term future of Taupo District’s Economic Development

I am committed to ensuring the council plans for the Taupo District’s long-term future. When elected I will advocate strongly for the Taupo Communities to be fully involved in public consultation on the best way forward for Taupo and its economic development .These decisions affect us all and your input will be valued and represented by me - Anna Kirk.

Taupo is about to undergo a major shift with the opening of the ETA, and I want to ensure we maximize the unique qualities we have to ensure Taupo remains the tourist mecca it is today.

I also believe we need to look at how we can enhance Taupo to bring businesses with their people and their families here to live, prosper and grow the local economy.

Personal Profile

I am a highly motivated individual, and am both honest and extremely loyal.  I thrive on having a challenge at hand. While I do work for Louise Upston MP for Taupo, it is not in a fulltime capacity which gives me the capability to be a dedicated councillor.

Working in Parliament for five years, for the likes of Hon John Carter, Hon Gerry Brownlee, Hon Bill English and Hon Simon Power over five years taught me the valuable skills of adapting to change through leadership, policy changes and law amendments.  The bigger picture was what was best for the community at large.  It was about issues not personalities.

Being a team player, able to communicate with all walks of life, and being very personable, I am able to achieve and certainly endeavour to exceed all expectations of any working environment.

I love being a mum, and I love being involved in the community.  I have a very supportive partner - David and family.

I love to cook, read, spend time with my twins and go fishing, and I love entertaining friends when time allows!

Question

Anna Kirk's Reply

Should we move the TDC offices?

Hi Jean

The current Council decided unanimously not to move the council offices to the domain.  There is some talk I believe of looking at the Council offices being moved to the carpark area next to the Library, as a mum who enjoys taking her children to the park and library with safe parking right there, I am at this time not at this time in favour of it at all.

Thanks for taking the time to send me a message.

Kind regards

Anna
