I was born and raised in the Gore District and have spent most of my adult life in Gore. I have been working at the Gore Medical Centre for 13 years as a Practice Nurse and latterly as the Nurse Manager. I began my involvement and experience in governance as a Director on the Hokonui PHO. It is through this involvement that I have developed a passion for leading health care in my community. As a receiver and provider of health care, I have a better understanding of some issues and the result that effective leadership has on both the community and people who work in health care. If elected, I would bring a fresh perspective as a registered nurse and work hard to ensure that the needs of our community as well as the needs of the greater area of Southland are represented in the best way possible.

Conflicts of Interest

I have the following current conflicts of interest with the Southern District Health board (DHB): a) I am the Nurse Manager at the Gore Medical Centre, a health service provider which is part funded by the DHB through the Hokonui Primary Health Organisation (PHO). b) I am the coordinator of the Gore Baptist Church Nail Clinic which receives funding from the Hokonui PHO for services. c) I am a director on the Hokonui PHO which will end on the 30 September 2010 with amalgamation into the Southern PHO. d) I am a Board member for the Faith Community Nurses Association of New Zealand but if successfully nominated will resign from this position, retaining membership only. e) My daughter is currently a nurse employed by the Southern DHB. f) My brother is currently employed by the Canterbury DHB as an Ophthalmology Specialist. My sister in law is a general practitioner at a health service provider which is part funded by the Canterbury DHB. To the best of my knowledge and belief, I have no other conflicts of interest with the DHB at the date of my notice of consent to be nominated as a candidate for membership of the board of the DHB. I do not believe that any conflicts of interest are likely to arise in the future, other than the continuation of the conflicts of interest stated above.
