I have been a New Plymouth District Councillor for the past nine years after a long involvement in educational, environmental and community affairs. Through Local Government I've advocated strongly and successfully for policies and strategies which have promoted positive health and wellbeing outcomes for the people of our District.

This has been a broad spectrum focus. It has included my involvement in the Youth Subcommittee, as Chairperson of the Senior Citizens Reference Group, association with Maori through Iwi Liaison and as a member of the Disabilities Working Party. My qualification as a Hearings Commissioner has given me significant experience and insight into Government legislation and the implications that has for Hospital Boards.

Sustainability and improvements to our Taranaki Hospitals and their services, within budget constraints, are critical. I have no doubt that, with strong governance, effective management and critical input from professional clinicians and the community, this outcome is achievable.
